In fast-moving environments, product development teams can get lost in the gap that exists between product vision, backlogs and task boards. A great collaboration framework can bridge this gap and ensures that business strategy drives market-driven, strategic product roadmaps while integrating diverse groups of the organization including architecture, operations and marketing.
Most roadmaps suck. Mine did. I built lots of roadmaps as a product manager, but they really did not reflect reality. I built them in a vacuum based on what I knew from customers and colleagues. Then, I presented the finished roadmap, and that is when I failed.
This lesson is about building roadmaps that work, through deep collaboration with stakeholders to generate clarity, alignment and believability. When you are done, you will have tools to bridge the gap between creating the vision and the prioritized backlog.
